Made for Oman

Local from the first bill.

Omani rial with three decimals

The till supports OMR and its three decimal places (baisa), so a price such as 0.350 prints exactly as the shelf label shows it.

5% VAT on sales and purchases

Set the 5% VAT rate on each product and track VAT on sales and purchases as they happen. Tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive pricing are both supported.

Fawtara-ready invoice data

Item, tax and invoice data stay in the shop's own database, ready for the Fawtara setup when your registration requires it. We configure and test the connection on request.

Cash, card, wallets and credit

Split one bill across cash, card, bank transfer and customer credit. Wallet and gateway names such as Thawani or OmanNet can be added as payment labels.

Arabic and second-language item names

Store the Arabic name of each product next to the English name, and print both on receipts. The software interface is in English.

Selling without internet

Cashiers keep billing when the connection drops. Offline sales wait in a queue on the shop network and sync automatically when the internet returns.

Oman's retail is a mix of very different shops. Neighbourhood grocers, known locally as hanouts, cover most daily needs in residential areas. Supermarkets and larger stores in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah run several counters and thousands of products. Traditional souks such as Muttrah Souk sell textiles, spices, frankincense and gifts, and many of their traders still keep careful paper records.

Expatriate communities shape the product mix. Shelves often carry labels in Arabic and English, and many shoppers also read Urdu or Hindi. A receipt that shows the item name in a second language helps both the cashier and the customer. Customers pay by cash, card, mobile wallet and bank transfer. Many owners also run credit accounts for regular buyers, who settle at the end of the month.

The pains are predictable. Owners want to know which products are running low before a delivery is due. They need VAT on every sale and every purchase tracked as it happens, not rebuilt at quarter end. Owners with several branches want the same price list and stock picture across all of them. In Salalah, the Khareef season brings a sharp rise in visitors, so stock counts and reorder lists matter more during those weeks.

Power and network interruptions still happen in some areas, and the counter has to keep selling when they do. A server PC with terminals on the shop network lets cashiers bill without waiting for the cloud.

Tax & e-invoicing

Oman Tax Authority

VAT and Fawtara e-invoicing (phased rollout)

VAT and Fawtara e-invoicing

Oman applies VAT at 5%. The Oman Tax Authority runs the Fawtara e-invoicing programme in phases, and businesses join at different times. Requirements, dates and invoice formats are set by the Tax Authority and can change, so check the current rules for your business before you go live.

AIFFICIENTO records VAT on every sale and purchase. You can export sales and purchase reports to CSV, so your accountant can prepare the filing from clean data.

For e-invoicing, AIFFICIENTO can be connected to the Fawtara platform on request. Open Settings, then Store, and use Request integration. Our team configures and tests the connection for your registration.

We do not claim certification or approval from the Oman Tax Authority. The connection goes live only when your registration and the Tax Authority rules allow it.

Choosing a POS in Oman

Omani shops choose from a basic cash register, a spreadsheet, a general accounting package, a restaurant POS, or a retail POS with local tax support. Some international platforms, such as Zoho POS, list Oman within their Gulf rollout (as published, October 2026). Test each option before you commit. Run a full shift with your own products, switch off the internet to see how the system behaves, print an Arabic product name on your printer, and ask who supports the Fawtara setup once it goes live. Compare the total yearly cost, including hardware, support and any setup fee, not only the monthly price. You can also see our plans and prices and compare them with your current costs.
