Best POS System in Dubai and the UAE: Buyer's Guide
Best POS system in Dubai and the UAE: a buyer's checklist with AED pricing, hardware costs, VAT invoice fields and the questions to ask every vendor.
- Choose a POS for your shop type first. A grocery, a boutique and a mobile shop need different features.
- Check VAT invoice fields, TRN on receipts, e-invoicing readiness and offline selling before you compare prices.
- Budget for hardware, support and migration on top of the monthly plan. Prices in this guide are AED and as published in October 2026.
- Test every vendor with your own products, your own returns and a real day of sales.
Dubai and the wider UAE have a busy retail mix. There are malls and high streets, family-run grocery stores, clothing and electronics shops, and wholesale traders in the older districts such as Deira, Bur Dubai and Al Karama. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain have their own markets and chains. A good point of sale (POS) system helps you bill faster, keep stock right, and meet your tax rules. This guide sets out what to check, what to ask, and what to budget, with prices in AED as published in October 2026.
What a retail POS needs in the UAE
Start with your own shop. A supermarket needs fast barcode billing and a clear view of expiry dates. A clothing store needs size and colour variants and easy returns. A mobile shop needs serial numbers and warranty records. Write down your top five daily tasks, and check each vendor against that list.
The UAE-specific points matter in every case:
- VAT at 5% on most goods, with some zero-rated and exempt items. The system must apply the right rate per product.
- TRN on receipts and invoices. Your tax registration number has to appear on the documents you issue.
- Tax-inclusive pricing. Most shoppers see the final price, so the receipt should show the VAT clearly.
- Arabic and English. Many customers read Arabic. Item names in both languages make the counter faster.
- Offline selling. Power and network problems happen. Sales should continue and sync later.
Ten things to check before you buy
- Can you bill with a USB barcode scanner and print on a thermal printer?
- Does the system work without the internet, with a local server on the shop PC?
- Does it store item names in Arabic and English?
- Are there split payments for cash, card and wallets?
- Can you handle returns with and without a receipt, and track who approved them?
- Does it show stock by branch, and warn you when items run low?
- Does it support customer credit accounts, and statements for business buyers?
- Are backups automatic, and can you restore them safely?
- Can you export your data to Excel or CSV if you change vendors?
- What support do you get, in what language, and at what hours?
What it costs in AED
The monthly plan is only one part of the cost. Ask each vendor for a full quote that includes:
- The software plan, per counter, per user or per branch.
- Setup, onboarding and data migration from your spreadsheets.
- Hardware: a barcode scanner, a thermal printer, a cash drawer and a PC or tablet.
- Any add-on for e-invoicing or integration.
AIFFICIENTO publishes its UAE prices. The Starter plan is AED 39 per month for one counter and up to three users. Growth is AED 95 per month for up to three counters, with unlimited users, promotions, loyalty and a larger AI allowance. Business is AED 179 per branch per month, with unlimited counters, multi-branch support and tax-integration setup. Yearly billing gives two months free. See the pricing page.
Hardware prices vary by supplier, so get two or three quotes from local dealers before you decide.
VAT invoice essentials
A POS for a UAE retailer needs to print the right fields. A full tax invoice needs the label "Tax Invoice", your name, address and TRN, the date, a description of each supply, and the VAT amount in AED. A simplified tax invoice for a walk-in sale can leave out the buyer's details. Our VAT invoice guide for GCC retailers lists the fields for each country.
Questions to ask in the demo
- Can you bill ten real products from my shop in the first session?
- What happens to a sale if the internet drops during the day?
- How do I issue a credit note for a return that was paid by card?
- Which printer models do you support for receipts and labels?
- How is my data backed up, and how long does a restore take?
- Who can see the reports, and can I limit access by role?
- Will you help me move my existing stock and customer list?
Run a one-day test
Ask the vendor for a trial that lets you run a full day. Open a shift, bill at least 50 items with a mix of barcode and manual entry, process a card sale, a cash sale and a return, then close the shift. Compare the cash count and the card total with your own records. If the numbers do not match on day one, they will not match on day one hundred.
Common mistakes
- Buying on the monthly price alone. Add hardware, setup and support before you compare.
- Skipping the trial. Test a full day of selling, not just a demo.
- Ignoring the VAT settings. Wrong tax rates cause problems at audit time.
- Choosing a system built for a different shop type. A restaurant-first product may not suit a retail counter.
Where AIFFICIENTO fits
AIFFICIENTO is built for retail counters, not restaurant table service. It runs on a Windows PC as the shop server, with terminals on the same network, plus an Android app and browser access. An iOS app is planned but not yet available. Staff can use the Touch layout with product tiles or the keyboard-first layout with F-keys. You can keep Arabic item names, set the tax name and TRN label, and print receipts on 58 mm or 80 mm printers.
The built-in assistant, Geto, can answer questions about your sales and stock, and it prepares actions for you to confirm. It never acts on its own. To see how the system works in Dubai, read our Dubai POS page and the UAE POS software overview.
Next step
You can try AIFFICIENTO free for 30 days with full access to every feature and no credit card required. Use the trial to run the one-day test described above. Load your own products, run a few real sales, and print a receipt with your TRN. Then compare the result with the other systems on your list.
